pieces of thanksgiving in Alabama

At our Thanksgiving Dinner....

The younguns made place cards for everyone.

Husband was in charge of the turkeys-- so there was no traditional oven-roasted turkey! One was smoked and one was fried. We took the drippings from the smoked turkey-- which was stuffed with celery and onion-- and made a smokey gravy to go with the traditional white gravy.

Miniature pumpkins worked well with the old brass candlesticks to make a cozy table display.

The china and silver was at its best.

I have always loved this china. The yellow centers of the little flowers are raised like braille, and I used to love to run my fingers over them and try to pick them off.
Not to worry. They're on very tight.

The fried turkey was injected with Creole Butter. Husband and I went to 3 grocery stores on Thanksgiving Eve in search of this ingredient-- we had no idea it was so popular! We finally found it at the 3rd grocery store-- the Piggly Wiggly. They were the only two left on the shelf. Ah, fate!

This is Husband surgically seasoning Mr. Turkey with the precious Creole Butter.

What are these girls up to? They found these cowboy hats in the house and next thing we knew they were out in the woods gathering sticks and pine straw. Hmmm...

Rolls, rolls, rolls. Did I mention Husband and I BOTH gained 2 pounds over Thanksgiving? We weighed at the gym last night. Amazing that just 4 days can do that.

The Fried Turkey masterpiece.

Just a few side items... we wouldn't want to go overboard or anything.

And everyone was generous enough to contribute their leftovers to a feast for the canines.

Yes, there were this many canines at Thanksgiving Dinner.

And this is all we saw or heard for the next 10 minutes after serving.

So, THIS is what the girls were up to!

Isn't it cute? Aren't they clever?

It even had a little rectangular window on the opposite side.

  1. Looks like a great Thanksgiving. We've never deep-fried a turkey, but we almost always grill it. Yummy, and less mess in the house.
