grey days

I'd like to use this as a color palette for something creative:

I was reminded yesterday of a little concept called the one-inch square picture that Anne Lammott talks about in her book Bird by Bird. Basically, you choose what can be contained in a one-inch square and you write or create from that sole view.

I realized that I sometimes zoom in on one-inch square pictures of color palettes outdoors and think, all the inspiration a designer or an artist could ever need is in nature.

And then I think, I am going to design my future dream home around nature's color palettes. I prefer to look more closely on grey days when the colors really pop. The photo above was taken on a grey day.

All this thinking reminds me of Romans 1:19-20

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made...

  1. I love that passage! - & green (which often symoblizes LIFE) is my favorite color. That shade is particularly striking & that color scheme would be lovely for any room of the house in just the right color proportions to make a few choice green accents "pop" like the green does here amidst the other more rustic/subtle colors :)

  3. Amen on all counts! Grey days are best for color, there is often so much in a one inch square, and how complicated we make things when God presents himself so plainly. Thanks for sharing that passage!

  4. Agreed with all above - everything we need to know, to believe, is right there in front of us.

Interesting photo. I love the angle you got it from!
