:: fall woodcuts

For all who love this wonderful season, I wanted to share these fall-themed woodcuts by children's illustrator Mary Azarian . I think it's neat that her last name sounds like "Agrarian" because according to her bio, she "moved to a small hill farm in northern Vermont in 1963" where she "farmed with horses and oxen, kept chickens, a milk cow and sheep, made maple syrup and raised three sons as well as a large vegetable and flower garden."

In essence, these are images from her everyday life-- not from some romanticized corner of her mind. Not that romanticized corners of the mind are any less compelling; it's just that these images are in a sense autobiographical, yet they look like they are from long ago in the days of The Ox-Cart Man.

This one is especially appropriate for the new month we're entering, don't you think? And how can you beat a festive image couple with the words of Thoreau?
